HAMZET WASL :: GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

So a couple of weeks ago I was interviewed by Dubai Television where I shared my community initiative - Hamzet Wasl همزة وصل. This initiative started around a year ago when I was struggling with my kids not being able to talk proper arabic due to the fact that their school and surrounding environment is largely non arabic (which is surprising seeing we live in an Arabic Islamic country). Although I had enrolled my kids in arabic camps and programs around Dubai for a couple of times, I was not seeing the proper change I wanted! That's when I decided that it was up to me to do something about it. I went to my laptop and started a facebook group within our compound in Jumeirah Village Triangle

DESIGN STORIES :: A FAMILY APARTMENT WITH PIZZAZZ!

This family has set up home in the central Oud Metha overlooking the beautiful Wafi Mall and the lush greens of Dubai Creek. Having lived in the apartment for quite a few years, the family felt their house needed pizzazz to bring all the items they already owned together! I must say this was the quickest makeover I had done - One Week People! This apartment was transformed and their reaction... beyond words! The house already had strong pieces, furniture that can stand up to a busy family life, so the first thing we did was reorganize the layout of the furniture so that the flow of movement was better. Entering the living room you are now welcomed with the piano on the left and a console wit

DESIGN STORIES :: A TRULY ECLECTIC FAMILY HOUSE - PART II

Continuing from the previous post about the Dar Al Wasl transformed home, we move upwards... where we are taken by the stairway to heaven! cliche I know! but that skylight hitting the marble stairs almost grabs you like a light attracts a moth! We kept those walls warm with the amazing rug art from Marina home. Working on the Master bedroom where we decided to keep the King size leather studded bed and breathe new life into the room with a totally fresh blue color scheme - I think this was my favourite room in the transformation, for obvious reasons! We added two wooden chestlike side beds from West Elm, some nice brass lights from Marina, plenty of storage offered by the wooden Indigo Livin

DESIGN STORIES :: A TRULY ECLECTIC FAMILY HOUSE

I'm not sure where to start with this one! Blessed I am as I have for some reason always been involved with families who have just moved into their house (full of boxes!) But this family was extra special because of the amazing mix of culture in it! Dr. Dorsaf, a Tunisian University professor, who among the places she has lived in was Japan! She even reads and writes the language! Married to Mr. Faisal, a Canadian from a Pakistani origin, who have met in Dubai and now have two lovely little kids who speak four languages! Giving this family a home was truly something! not because of the cocktail of cultures but beacuse the couple have two totally different styles - and I was the buffer or cat

SACCAL DESIGN HOUSE :: POLISHED & FRESH

This blog post is extra special as I present to you my sisters from another mother (My aunt!) You see the resemblance I'm sure!! The Saccal sisters who started off SACCAL DESIGN HOUSE - A multidiscplinary design studio in Beirut are taking us by storm... and here's why! Please tell us about your business and what inspired you to start your business adventure? We opened our design office end of 2014 as a collaborative work between myself, an architect, and my sister who is an interior architect. We had always dreamed about having a design office that would span across different scales/ mediums in design, namely from the grand scale of architecture to interiors to the smaller scale of product
