YISLAMOO :: WITTY ARABIAN ART

You know how we are always scouting for fresh talent to showcase whether in our projects or on our socials! Presenting to you Rasha Hamdan of @Yislamoo .

You might have seen some of her work on the coolest colourful interiors or in the uber stylish popups, but today you will get to know a little bit more about her and her work!

This Palestinian designer was born, raised and educated between Kuwait & Jordan and found a niche for the arabic language & culture to thrive through witty art prints and greeting cards.

Please tell us about your business and what inspired you to start your business adventure?

Yislamoo started when I noticed we don't have Arabic greeting cards in the region, it began from wanting to offer cards to allow people in our region to celebrate life occasions in their own language and their own skin.

We have evolved into a label showcasing my personal work and the collaborative work of talented artists and calligraphers all inspired by beautiful Arabia to bring memorable pieces that resonate the richness of our visual and lingual culture. We hope to reach every home and heart in this region & beyond.

ABOUT LIVING IN DUBAI

What inspires you in/about Dubai?

I would say architectural details in public/commercial spaces is one thing that always grabs my attention. The layers and combination of textures of building material is so rich, like a beautifully and elaborately set dinner table. Also the kindness of locals and expats alike, the place has a relaxed feel good communal vibe.

Favourite thing to do in City?

II'm still a newbie, but living near the sea is a first time for me and there's nothing better than taking a dip before sunset to wash off your long day.

What's your favorite way to spend the weekend?

Roadtrips, I got maps of UAE & Oman from when we first arrived and my husband and I try to drive and explore a new location whenever we get the chance.

A store you could spend hours browsing?

Online or offline? I don't like going to large department stores and malls, it's not my thing.

I love sitting with a nice cup of hot chocolate and doing all my shopping and window-shopping online.

My favorites are Knoll, Crate & Barrel & Kashida

A LITTLE EXTRA...

Things you can't live without?

Google Maps and Online Reviews, I've become absolutely dependent and lost my inner skills of self orientation though!

As an entrepreneur please share some tips that help you set up?

Walk at your own pace and in your own shoes, it's very easy to look at other businesses for inspiration which does not necessarily apply to you or your business.

Do you read any blog? If so which ones are your favorite?

Everything and anything about music, it's always fascinating to learn how wordsmiths can interpret sonicsmiths work!

Do you have a life motto?

Practicality is the serial killer of dreams
