THE ART OF DISPLAYING ART

If you are like me and enjoy acquiring art during your travel you will relate to this post. It got me thinking... How easy/hard it would be displaying various art pieces in one space without them clashing while adding visual interest in a room. I then remembered stumbling across an article on an antique dealer Alfonso Icaza’s house in Madrid years ago. It’s a great example of how Neoclassical pieces can coexsit with modern art and furniture. The key is to keep in mind proportion, color and definitely how the art piece will be approached. I also added a few other examples for my web research where Art is incorporated into the interiors in a way that that it becomes the highlight of the room.

TALKING VINTAGE SUZANI

I scored a great buy of a vintage suzani around four years ago and have not yet put it into use! part of the reason being that its around 4x4 meters! its huge even if I use it as its intended bedspread. I can’t even deal with the idea of cutting it to use into a project. However these images are inspiring enough to make rethink the whole idea. What do you guys think? what should I do with it? #interiors #suzani #pattern #color

GOODBYE EXPECTATIONS, HELLO IKEA!

So IKEA UAE just launched their new catalogue for 2017, with a whole new theme of going beyond the expectations that is caused by social media and peer pressure ... just be yourself, enjoy what you do best and do it like no body is watching. The new range of furniture was unfolded by telling a story...taking into consideration the way we live today and how people tend to share spaces and how this space would cater for all different age groups and needs. I personally fell in love with the new kitchen cabinet finishes in nice matt and glass greens as well as printed graphics, allowing you to personalise pieces in a myriad of different combinations. Even the couches introduced can be setup for

THE VENICE OF THE NORTH, ST. PETERSBURG CITY GUIDE

Known as the Venice of the North, St. Petersburg has a beautiful Labyrinth of rivers (Neva, Fontanka, Moika) and numerous canals across the city giving it a distinct character. Given the iconic classical architecture here, the water is actually one of the best places to get the best views of all these magnificent structures which is why we took Canal tour in the city. Our two day visit to St. Petersburg was a full schedule of sightseeing the cities finest palaces, museums and cathedrals all pre-booked with early entry through ALLA TOURS, I cannot recommend them enough for making our whole trip marvellous. They even arranged for our 72 hour visa... saving us a visit to the embassy. Not only d

COPENHAGEN CITY GUIDE

So here it is folks... my own Copenhagen City Guide! 4 days would have been enough for us, but we decided to stay and extra day and chill around the city. What a city! friendly people, multicultural, super clean (you should check out their public bathrooms!) full of design, kids friendly with loads of playgrounds, and sports facilities. If you are staying for a few days, I highly recommend the apartment we booked via Air B&B check it out here. Alternatively, you can stay at the Copenhagen Marriot Hotel, where we stayed our last days post cruise before travelling back to Dubai. Oh and everywhere you go you'll either find ducks or swans to feed, a kids favourite too! You can easily ride bikes

TOUCH DOWN COPENHAGEN

As each year, we try to escape a few weeks of Dubai heat by travelling somewhere cold(er)... this year, our decision was set on a Cruise to the Baltic Cities starting with Copenhagen. We stayed five days exploring the city and and its gems before and absolutely fell in love with it before sailing away. The choice for our stay landed on renting an apartment via Air B&B, a first time for us, and with a with little bit of speculation honestly... however our choice was spot on since the kids were older now and needed the space the they would normally have, rather than a hotel room. We opted for a gem of a find in the trendy neighbourhood of Norrebo, and what a choice it was. The owners Anna & La
